On-Line Newsletter

On of the goals at ASFS this year is to decrease the amount of paper used and utilize technology for communicating with parents and community. For the past month the front office has collected email for almost 86% of all students. In Room 149 we are fortunate that 91% of us check email nightly. A printed copy of this newsletter will be sent to our students with out email.

Book Exchange

In the spirit of giving this holiday season, we will be having a book exchange in our classroom on Thursday, December 21. Please send a new, wrapped book with your child between now and the date of the book exchange. Molecules will choose a number and then find the book with that number. They will be allowed to trade with each other to satisfy interests.

Holidays Around the World

Starting Monday, we will be reading a variety of books that celebrate different holiday traditions around the world. We will read about Hanukkah and Kwanzaa. On Tuesday, Molecules will visit each kindergarten classroom for a holiday project.

MARS Books

Starting after the new year, Molecules are asked to bring back their MARS books each day. During small Guidied Reading groups we will read together a new book every other day. Often times your child may come home with the same book, but it was read again with the group. The growth Mrs. Cabals and I have seen in reading skills, ability to sound out words, using context and picture clues has been huge. We both agree it's due the work you are doing at home to support what we're doing in the classroom .

Book Orders Have Arrived!

Book orders came in at the end of today. I will be bundling your books and sealing them away in back packs. If you would like to come to the school and pick up, just let me know. Great news: This holiday order provided 15 new books to our classroom library!

Book Ordering On-Line

Please print the letter giving you instructions on ordering Scholastic Books on-line. Click here.

Scholastic is inviting parents to go onto their site and shop for the books in the same catalogs that come home. You will still be receiving the catalogs, but now you have the option to use your credit card to order books. Books will still be sent to the classroom and delivered through back pack mail.

Movie Saturday

I am looking forward to seeing the Molecules for Charlotte's Web this Saturday, 12/16. We'll first meet at 11:00 at Five Guys for great burgers and then walk to the movie at AMC Courthouse Theater. The movie will run one hour and 43 minutes. Family and friends are welcome to join us! Parents leaving their child with me should be outside the movie theater at 2:00. Please let me know if you have any questions.
